An early travel narrative by Austrian Ida Pfeiffer (1797-1858), “the first full-time woman traveller of all, and one of the very few who never felt the need to qualify her impulse: she travelled because she wanted to see the world, and saw no reason by she shouldn’t” – Robinson. Richard Bentley published an edition of Visit to Iceland in 1852, and that same year Ingram, Cooke published this competing edition by an anonymous translator, with additional material about Icelandic poetry and history, and accompanied by attractive tinted lithographs. This edition is not noted in Robinson or Theakstone. Priority between the Bentley and Ingram, Cooke editions is not known.Price: $200.00
