The story of a year in the life of young Bertram Cope, an instructor of English at a suburban Chicago university, and of his conflicted affections for another man. Fuller's New York publishers would not accept Bertram Cope's Year, and his friend and fellow Chicagoian Ralph Fletcher Seymour published it. The novel received little attention, but in the intervening years Bertram Cope's Year has seen a strong renewal of scholarly interest, and it has been recognized as a pioneering homosexual novel. See Wikipedia for a long and detailed article about the novel. Henry Blake Fuller (1857-1929) was one of the most interesting Chicago writers of his era.Sold
