Comments

In 1849, Swedish novelist and writer Fredrika Bremer (1801-1865) came to North America for a two-year tour of the United States and Cuba, which she documented in letters to her sister, Agatha and published as The Homes of the New World. It was Bremer’s first travel book (of several) and in great detail reports on her wide-ranging itinerary from New England, through the South, to Cuba and back again. The original letters are here edited by Adolph B. Benson, with a fine introduction about Bremer and her American tour.
