An early work by the prolific American wood engraver Alexander Anderson (1775-1870), who has often been referred to as the father of American wood engraving. Like other of Anderson's early works, this one is partly derivative (the cooper plates are after the work of English engraver Thomas Stothard), but the wood engravings of flowers are Anderson's original work and represent one of his "more charming productions" - Hamilton. English poet John Langhorne's Fables of Flora (1771) was very popular (and sometimes satirized) in its day, and there were several illustrated editions.Price: $500.00
