A fine photograph of the Chicago home of Franklin MacVeagh, at the corner of Lake Shore Drive and Shiller Street, designed by H. H. Richardson, who received the commission in July 1885. The house was completed in 1887, the year following Richardson’s death. Franklin MacVeagh (1837-1934), was a Chicago banker and one-time Secretary of the Treasury under William Howard Taft. This photograph was apparently part of a series by the photographer E. Edwards of stately residences in Chicago. This stately residence was demolished in 1922.
