CommentsOne of many famous portraits of the great poet of the Augustan age, Alexander Pope. This truncated engraved version of Van Loo's oil portrait is surrounded by an elaborate allegorical scene, depicting Britannia with classical references. This engraving was made in Amsterdam for Thomas Birch's Heads of Illustrious Persons of Great Britain, volume 2.
