Comments

The first book by Caroline Kirkland, an interesting realistic novel based on her first-hand experience of pioneer life with her husband and six children in a remote Michigan village. She writes in the preface that her work was in part inspired by and patterned on Mary Russell Mitford’s famous sketches of life in an English town, Our Village, published in installments from 1824 to 1832.
