Comments

Topographically inspired poetry about Turkey, Syria and Greece by Joseph Dacre Carlyle (1759-1804), posthumously edited by his sister Susanna Maria Carlyle (1752-1833), handsomely printed by William Bulmer and illustrated with two fine aquatints by the artist and engraver Robert Pollard (1755-1838). Susanna Maria Carlyle's role in this publication was essential and hence Benjamin Colbert recognizes her contribution in his bibliography of Women's Travel Writing. Small book labels of Ruari McLean and J. O. Edwards on the front paste-down.
