A Selection of Thirty-Four Rare Books and Manuscripts recently acquired here in San Francisco and during a trip to London and Oxford, where we attended the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers' Congress. Subjects include early American fiction, 17th, 18th & 19th century English poetry and fiction, Greek and Latin literature, imaginary books and libraries, and a few moderns are thrown in to balance things out. The woodcut above was one of the many printers' ornaments used by Samuel Richardson in Mary Chandler's The Description of Bath (number 12 below).
