Miscellany Eighty-Six: Recent Acquisitions

Miscellany Eighty-Six: Recent Acquisitions

Twenty-one books (and one manuscript), the majority of which were acquired this last October on a trip through Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine, from the Berkshires to Portland. An old-fashioned book buying trip, and as well a biblio-sentimental journey of sorts that took me 805 miles and to more than 20 booksellers, among them Rusty & Veta Mott of Howard S. Mott, Russell and Martha Freedman of Second Life Books, Peter Masi, Lin & Tucker Respess, Hosea Baskin of Cumberland Rare Books, Greg Gibson and Ann Marie Crotty of Ten Pound Island, De Wolfe & Wood, James Arsenault, Brattle Book Shop and Peter Stern. En route 68 books and two manuscripts were purchased; lots of hospitality was extended to me by colleagues and old friends; and an excellent time was had. There will be a second list of books acquired on this trip issued later in January.
