CommentsAn attempt by Crane to enter the more placid world of domestic realism as exemplified by his mentor Howells. A struggling artist in bohemian New York falls in love with a young woman from a rich New York family; the typical sort of Howellsian social problems ensue. Though a fairly well-crafted novel, The Third Violet was not well received.
