CommentsA well written and thorough cultural guide that begins in France and Switzerland en route to Italy, where the majority of the 42 chapters deal entertainingly with its sights, typography and history - at the end of the Grand Tour. Mementoes was sufficiently popular that a second edition, with illustrations, was published in 1826, but alas its author chose to be anonymous, where he/she remains. Contemporary bookplate of H. C. Lewis on the front paste-down, above which is the bookplate (designed by Reynolds Stone) of 20th century collector Stuart B. Schimmel.
