CommentsA scholarly edition of the satires of contemporary Romans Juvenal and Persius Flaccus, with the text in Latin and the editors' scholia in English, preceded by brief biographies of the two authors. It was edited for the series Bibliotheca Classica by Arthur John Macleane (1811-1858) and George Long (1800-1879). This volume was originally edited solely by Macleane, but George Long made numerous revisions for this second edition, following Macleane's death. Contemporary ink signature of one C. A. Oliver on the title-page, with his extensive annotations in the margins, translating into English Latin words, expressions and phrases.
