Comments

An interesting example of Yellow Peril literature in the form of dystopian fiction about an imaginary conquest the United States by the Chinese, beginning in California where they had immigrated since the 1850s. Pierton Donner (1844-1907?) meticulously describes how the Chinese "Empire" has always wanted to rule the world, but he cautions that their intended hegemony will not be obvious until the 20th century. Contemporary ink signature dated Los Angeles, 1880, on the front and rear endpapers.
