Joseph Blumenthal's survey of the American printed book from 1640 through the latter part of the 20th century. Among those in the later period that Blumenthal writes about are several prominent presses and printers from California, including the Plantin Press, the Allen Press, Adrian Wilson, the Arion Press, and William Everson. This copy is from the library of William Everson, with his signature "William Everson / Aug 31, 1977 / Kingfisher Flat" on the front free endpaper. Laid in is an invitation addressed to Everson, printed by the Twowindows Press, to an opening of an exhibit at the Bancroft Library, centering on books in The Printed Book in America, October, 16, 1977. A later annotation in pencil on the free endpaper states: "WE Copy / PBA Sale 3/98 / pre-publication / for contributors."
