The first book of the Black Rock Press and the first book of poetry by playwright George Herman, a collection of six amusing poems on sparrows. The Black Rock Press was founded by Kenneth and Patricia Carpenter in 1965 on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno, where it remains today as the center of a book arts program. Kenneth Carpenter was a librarian at UC Berkeley who taught printing and printing history and was himself a fine letter press printer. The second book of the Black Rock Press was William Everson's, with whom Carpenter had a close relationship.
