CommentsA rare complete run of the comic almanac by Henry Wheeler Shaw (1818-1885), one of the most popular American literary humorist of the 19th century. Billing's Farmer's Allminax was a parody on the famous Old Farmer's Almanac, and the early issues often sold over 100,000 copies. Like Clemens, Artemus Ward and other literary comedians, Shaw lectured widely and contributed regularly to the periodicals. Laid in are several manuscript fragments with aphorisms by Shaw, presumably, except for two, in his hand.
