Comments

¶ A thoroughly revised and entertaining edition of Francis Grose's famous slang dictionary, first published in 1785. This edition was appropriately edited by the Pierce Egan (1772-1849), journalist, chronicler of London's low-life and sporting scene, and author of the popular Real Life in London (1821). Included in this edition is Grose's preface to the second edition, with the title-pages of four earlier works on English slang, and a 12-page biographical sktech of Grose by Egan.
