Comments

Saint Augustine's seminal philosophical work in defense of Christianity in its second English edition. The translation by John Healey (1585-1618) was one of the remarkable translations of its era and was used for many subsequent editions, well into the 20th century. The commentary is by the great humanist scholar Juan Luis Vives (1492-1540). Bookplate of Joseph Copley inside the upper board.
