Comments

The first book by Hannah Adams (1755-1831), an interesting dictionary to the religions and sects of the world written in a remarkably objective scholarly manner. There were subsequent editions, entitled A View of Religions and A Dictionary of Religions, in 1791 and 1801, and the success of the work brought Adams' family financial security. Hannah Adams is often described as the first American professional woman author. Ink signature, "J. Allen's, 1785" on the title page.
