Comments¶ The first book by Mary Hunter Austin (1868-1934), an iconic collection of sketches about the Owens Valley region of California that were originally published in the Overland Monthly. This is one of the best possible California literary association copies: inscribed on the front free endpaper "For George Sterling / from / Mary Austin." Sterling's bookplate on the front paste-down.
