"The first treatise on bibliography by an English writer" - Lowndes. The original Latin text by Richard de Bury (1287-1345), the Bishop of Durham, was translated by John Bellingham Inglis. W. J. Courtenay in the DNB writes: "Philobiblon contains more than expressions of [Bury's] love of books, his methods of acquiring his library and his plans for endowing a college at Oxford that would house his collection. It contains abundant criticisms of contemporary scholarly and religious practices . . . [and] admonishes various groups for their neglect or misuse of learning." This English translation contains 35 pages of Inglis' notes.Price: $1,500.00
