8vo, original gilt-pictorial green cloth, gilt lettering, a.e.g. Half-tone photographic frontis and 20 half-tone plates. Fourteen pages (including the rear endpapers) of advertisements for local businesses.

Comments

¶ A charming book on the principal islands of St. Thomas and St. Croix in the Danish West Indies, with historical sketches, descriptions of the present agreeable conditions there, and five short stories about the famous pirates Bluebeard and Blackbeard and their castles on the island, none of which are signed. Taylor was a prominent citizen of St. Thomas, a physician, the owner of Taylor’s Bookstore, a member of the Colonial Council, and the author of other works on the Danish West Indies. This second issue includes a 19-page section on St. Croix with photographs and advertisements not in the earlier issue of 1895. Inscribed by Taylor on the front blank "With kind regards / and best wishes / from / Charles Taylor / MD."
