Comments

The first and only early biographical treatment of Mary Wollstonecraft (1759-1797), the author of the Vindication of the Rights of Woman, who died prematurely giving birth to her daughter Mary Godwin (later Shelley). Soon after her death, her husband William Godwin began composing this unconventional memoir, which would become recognized as an innovative work in the history of English biography.
