Comments¶ A comprehensive and entertaining guide to post-revolution Paris, written under guise of a series of letters. Blagdon (bap. 1777-1819) was a prolific journalist and author who traveled extensively on the Continent. In his Paris guide he covers lodging, museums, artists, French literature, theater, opera, restaurants (with a sample menu), "public" women and women "fond of appearing in male attire," scientific societies, coffee-houses, pickpockets, shopkeepers, anecdotes of scandal and high living, etc. Ownership signature on each title-page of Samuel Sitgreaves (1764-1827), U.S. Congressman and diplomat.
