Comments¶ A famously enduring work of 18th century English travel, though it has little to do with France or Italy and is in fact more accurately described as a semi-autobiographical imaginary voyage, and a charming one it is. Sterne desired to show the sentimental traveler as one who seeks and finds those things in travel that are pleasing and stimulating, as opposed to the critical approach of so many travel narratives.
