Comments¶ Fictitious letters from Robert Devereux, Earl of Essex (1565-1601), defending his military campaigns and actions under Elizabeth's reign, written by the prolific pamphleteer and polemicist Thomas Scott. In 1826 Scott wrote a similar piece about Raleigh, Sir Walter Rawleigh's Ghost, or, England's Forewarner. Small book-label of Louis H. Silver on the front paste-down, below which is the bookplate of Robert S. Pirie.
