Comments

A scarce study of literary forgery by French author, antiquary and bibliophile Charles Nodier (1780-1844), who was also apparently well versed in the subject: "The French C19 saw Charles Nodier, whose Questions de Littérature Légale . . . is a minor classic of forgery criticism, repeatedly poise on the borderlines of fiction and fraud - another gamekeeper turned poacher." - Freeman, page 62. ¶ Contemporary signature on the title-page of Greek scholar and publisher Jean-François Boissonade (1774-1857).
