Comments¶ Holmes' memoir of his friend John Lothrop Motley, written at the request of the Massachusetts Historical Society. An interesting copy: From the library of bibliophile DeWitt Miller (1857-1911) with the following skillfully tipped in: two holograph letters by Holmes, one post card by John Jay, a clipping of a review of the Memoir and a clipping of a caricature involving Motley. One of the letters from Holmes mentions Ralph Waldo Emerson and a quotation Holmes had learned from him. There are additional marginal annotations in Miller's hand.
