Comments

¶ The first play by James Thomson (1700-1748), with a prologue by Alexander Pope. Sophonisba proved popular and was rushed to publication. There were both octavo and quarto editions, issued almost simultaneously, and there are a number of variations of the press figures. This one corresponds to ESTC T228088, with press figures on pages 29 and 64 and an errata on the recto of the final leaf.
