Comments¶ This collection is preceded by several collections entitled Plays of Sir John Vanbrugh (1719, 1730, 1734, 1735 & 1741), but this is the first one to contain all of Vanbrugh's plays, with the addition of Colley Cibber's version of Vanbrugh's unfinished comedy A Journey to London. In 1728, Cibber completed Vanbrugh's play and published it with the new title The Provok'd Husband, or, A Journey to London. It was sometimes published with Vanbrugh's original unfinished version. The collected editions prior to this one either omitted one of the versions of A Journey to London or they omitted The Country House, also published as La Maison Rustique. Armorial bookplate of William Lygon on the front paste-downs.
