CommentsAn exchange of letters between fifth-century B.C. Athenians that sets a framework for a commentary on the literary and political world of that era and the relevance of that on the world in which Landor wrote it in 1835. Pericles and Aspasia is entirely fiction, and in his prefatory remarks Landor warns the reader not to expect historical accuracy. Block correctly lists it in his checklist of English novels, and it is Landor's only novel, albeit an epistolary one that is somewhat similar to his famous Imaginary Conversations. The second volume is dedicated to Andrew Jackson, with a ten-stanza dedicatory poem.
