Comments

A biography of one of the most “celebrated actresses of the English stage . . . she was a woman of extraordinary beauty, as well as talent, and famous both as a tragic and comic performer . . .” - Lowe. Anne Oldfield (1683-1730) was buried at Westminster Abbey. There were numerous competing memoirs of her, and she was memorialized by numerous literary figures, including Richard Savage. Curll wrote this under one of his pseudonyms, and it was the first of several Covent Garden memoirs he was responsible for.
