Comments¶ The first of three plays by John Hoole (1727-1803), translator and aspiring writer. Hoole was a friend of Samuel Johnson and a member of his Essex Head Club. Johnson wrote the dedication to Cyrus, and John Hawksworth wrote the epilogue. Hoole was best known for his translation of Tasso, which earned him the nickname of "Tasso Hoole." See the ODNB.
