Comments¶ The epistolary record of the close relationship between Whitman and the working-class young man Peter Doyle, with an introduction by Bucke, one of Whitman's litearary executors, and a 13-page memoir of Whitman by Doyle, as told to Bucke and Horace Traubel. Doyle was an Irish immigrant who drove a street car in Washington, D.C. when he and Whitman met and became lasting friends.
