Comments¶ A selection of the works of Barre Charles Roberts (1789-1810), an Oxonian who died at the age of twenty-one. Roberts wrote for the Quarterly Review, Gentleman's Magazine, and published a compendium of Spanish verbs. He was a collector as well as a scholar, "well versed in antiquities, especially topography and numismatics" - DNB. Inscribed on the front free endpaper to “Lord Auckland / with Mr. Roberts best respects.” This is almost certainly a note from Roberts’ father, who outlived him. Slightly later annotation in another hand on the front free endpaper “December 6, 1842 / (Unpublished).” Charles Bedford, Roberts close friend, wrote the memoir and compiled and edited the work.
