The first and only collected edition of the works of poet, translator and curate Francis Fawkes (1720-1777), who was praised by Johnson for his translation of Anacreon, and Johnson is one of the subscribers here - to a superfine copy. 138 of the 735 subscribers ordered copies on superfine paper. Contemporary bookplate on the front paste-down of John Plumptre. Original Poems contains Fawkes' famous song, The Brown Jug, which remains in print in anthologies of English songs and ballads.
