DescriptionRoyal 8vo, later full polished tan calf, red leather label, gilt decorations, dentelles and lettering, a.e.g. 24 engraved plates after designs by Cattermole.
CommentsCollaboratively written historical tales, all centering on a series of illustrations by Cattermole and most of which involve events at the famous country mansion Haddon Hall. Only one of the contributors, aside from the editor, has been identified: William Harrison Ainsworth, who wrote the chapter entitled “The Astrologer.” See Ellis, W. H. Ainsworth and His Friends. Calabrella, a self-styled “Lady of Rank,” was a minor novelist, but Evenings at Haddon Hall was a popular success: it went through at least ten printings or editions and was in print as late as 1893.
