Comments

¶ One of Sheridan’s most popular plays, based on the Spaniards of Peru by Kotzebue, a story of Francisco Pizarro, the conqueror of the Incas. There were two issues of this first edition, one on ordinary paper and “A Superior Edition, on fine wove Paper, hot-pressed, Price 5s.” This is one of the latter, with the paper watermarked 1796. Contemporary ink ownership signature at the foot of the title page.
