Aldrich’s most enduring work here in its rare French translation, attractively illustrated and printed. At the conclusion of the novel are two additional stories in French by Aldrich. Inscribed on the verso of the front free endpaper “To Ogden Bishop / In Pleasant remembrance of / a dinner we had together / July 28, 1889 / Thos. Bailey Aldrich / Paris.” Vellum bookplate of Ogden M. Bishop on the front paste-down.
