Comments¶ An essential source book for Cook’s voyage and other important explorations edited and compiled by Jared Sparks, but based on the first-hand account of John Ledyard (1751-1789), an American who traveled on Cook’s third expedition and later attempted to traverse Russia at the behest of Thomas Jefferson, who wanted to discover the route to the North American continent. In 1789 Ledyard disappeared while exploring the Nile River.
