CommentsA fine portrait of Emerson, made the same year he voiced his support for the abolitionist cause. Joseph Carew (not to be confused with Thomas Carew, also a sculptor in Boston at the same time), was active between 1840-1870 and exhibited his works frequently at the Boston Anthenæum, with major exhibitions in 1853, 1859 and 1860.
