CommentsThe first volume of Putnam’s Monthly Magazine, containing the first six issues, January to June. Three of those issues serialize Thoreau's essays about his travels in Canada, which were later published in A Yankee in Canada. There publication here precedes the publication of Walden by almost six months. The February issue also includes in the series "Our Young Authors," an eight-page unsigned essay on Herman Melville and his works to date.
