Comments

¶ In addition to minor alternations in the poems, Irving wrote a four-page dedication to Samuel Rogers. Inscribed on the front blank by the publishers to Lord F. L. Gower, “with the publisher’s respects.” Gower, later Egerton, was a poet and statesman and probably acquaintance of Irving’s. See the DNB.
