CommentsOne of numerous novels by this versatile and productive author and Irish nationalist M.P. Miss Misanthrope, with its strong-minded heroine and gentle satire, stands out as one of McCarthy’s “superior works” (Sutherland, Victorian Fiction). An ex-library copy, marked “Withdrawn,” with traces of labels on the spines, small ink notations and blind-stamps on the title pages, and some scattered library marks. A presentation copy, inscribed in ink at the head of the title page in volume one, “With the author’s best wishes.”.
