Comments¶ Whittier’s longest work of prose, an anonymous novella written in the form of the journal of a 17th-century English woman in the Bay Colony who recounts her life and that of her relatives; among the characters is one Elizabeth Rowson, who marries an English adventurer only to later discover that he is a bigamist and a confidence man. Margaret Smith’s Journal is also the first book from this publishing firm to bear Fields’ name in the imprint.
