CommentsA fine travel guide to North Wales by the poet, novelist and artist Louisa Stuart Costello (1799-1870), elaborately adorned with original illustrations and a fine map. This is one of five travel guides by Costello, and the only one set in her native Great Britain. It is rich in historical detail and specifically recommends how the traveler should proceed through North Wales, almost step-by-step. Costello was "the first professional lady travel writer. . . . [who] did tourism a great service in the early days of excursion travel by recommending simple itineraries with plenty of historical and topographical interest" - Robinson.
