CommentsAn important study on the state of agriculture, written almost coincidentally as Arthur Young (1741-1820) was inspecting farms for potential purchase. Young became more successful as a prolific author on agricultural and related subjects than he was at farming itself, though he was celebrated for his experimentation with agricultural methods. "Arthur Young is certainly the greatest producer of farming literature our annals record" - Fussell. Contemporary ink signature of "Charles E. Smith / Suttons" on the front paste-down and "P. Bertie / 1770" on the front free endpaper.
