CommentsMore than 70 poems, sketches and short tales by 50 or so writers from Rhode Island, most notably Sarah Helen Whitman with seven contributions and Timothy Brooks with two. The editor/compiler, Anne Lynch, later Anne C. Lynch Botta (1815-1891), also contributed two poems. Later, circa 1850-1880, she became a important figure in the New York literary scene, where she was a friend and supporter of many writers, editors and publishers; her home was often a gathering place for them; and she compiled the popular Handbook of Universal Literature.
