CommentsThis is a rewriting the author's first novel "Captin Gray's Company" (1859), which was the first novel commercially published in Oregon. "Captin Gray's Company" and "From the West to the West" draw from the author's experiences on the Oregon trail as she and her family migrated from Illinois to Oregon in 1852. Duniway is recognized as an important women's right advocate in the West and an early proponent of women's suffrage.
